The whole track is incredibly immersive. If the voice is an instrument, Kym’s is finely tuned and accented by the sparse but perfectly executed harmonies.

I first listened to the track “Folk Hero” by Loamlands with no expectations. From the sound of the first guitar notes, I had the impression I would be listening to something incredibly lo-fi – I was wrong. It was my mistake having listened to the song for the first time through on my cell. When I gave it another listen, this time with good quality speakers, I heard a whole other song. I heard the dreamy, ethereal tones and bass that underlie this track from the beginning. I heard warmth. I heard something that moved me.

Initially, some of the notes in the main guitar riff sounded odd, almost wrong in a way, but when the drums and vocals kicked in at around the 40-second mark everything came together and made sense. The whole track is incredibly immersive. If the voice is an instrument, Kym’s is finely tuned and accented by the sparse but perfectly executed harmonies. Like the title suggests, this song tells a story. I had not yet processed the lyrics when I came to the conclusion that this is a great song.  I will leave the storyline up to you to interpret.

Do yourself a favour and immerse yourself in “Folk Hero” by Loamlands.
